Who Are the Friends of LSM?
The Friends of Leigh St Mary’s group, often referred to as FOLSM, is the name of our Parent and Teacher Association.
We are a welcoming and friendly team united by a common purpose: to support and enrich the educational experience of all children at Leigh St Mary’s C of E Primary School. Our valued members include school staff, parents, carers and family members of children who attend our school
What We Do
As Kay Johnson, our Treasurer, puts it:
“Together we raise funds to support enhanced learning opportunities and provide resources that the normal school budget can’t deliver. These funds enable us to provide forest school equipment for outdoor learning, playground apparatus for pupils to enjoy during breaks, exciting outings to new places, and ongoing improvements for Leigh St Mary’s. We strive to go above and beyond the allocated school budget to offer enhanced learning experiences for our children.”
The support we receive from our school community goes beyond baking cakes, making donations, or volunteering time. It translates into valuable resources and learning experiences that otherwise the school just wouldn’t be able to afford.

How Can I Get Involved?
While fundraising is the primary focus, our FOLSM group also plays a vital role in promoting a sense of community and creating a friendly support network – bringing together parents, school staff and the local community.
There are so many ways to contribute and any level of involvement is entirely up to you.

Recent Fundraising Events
Our current focus is to raise much-needed funds for our wonderful and unique Forest School.
We are so fortunate to have this calm, natural space in the heart of Leigh town centre. FOLSM want to make every effort to ensure its longevity.
The Big Book Sale

LSM Cake Bake
We were overwhelmed by the response to our latest Cake Bake in June. Step aside Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood and Nadiya Hussain, it seems the real star bakers are at LSM!

Annual Events
A number of exciting core events form the backbone of our fundraising efforts throughout the school year.
Winter Disco
A ticketed event after school with dancing, games, food, refreshments, a DJ and perhaps an appearance from a special Christmas guest…
Christmas Fayre
Festive fun for all the family. We use donations of chocolates, raffle prizes or bottles for our festive stalls and games. We also invite children to come to school in Christmas jumpers in exchange for a small monetary donation.
Summer Fayre
A family event in the school grounds celebrating the British summer with games and stalls. Past favourites have included cake stalls, a craft fayre and makers market, a variety of games and the ever popular bouncy castle!
These events are always well attended and raise essential funds for school.
